A woman was arrested Tuesday morning at Mocopulli Airfield in the commune of Dalcahue after making a false bomb threat, triggering security protocols throughout the Los Lagos Region.

The incident began when security personnel from the Directorate General of Civil Aeronautics (DGAC) called the Dalcahue station to report a direct threat, in which the individual claimed to be in possession of an explosive device.

Police Response

Following the alert, Carabineros officers arrived at the airfield to investigate the situation. Captain Felipe San Martín, sub-commissioner of Services at the Castro Police Station, stated that officers interviewed the woman once they arrived on the scene.

During the investigation, the woman admitted the threat was fake. “It was just a joke,” she told police while waiting for a Latam flight to Santiago.

The woman, a resident of Castro, remains in custody. She faces charges under Article 168 bis, which criminalizes making false threats.

A detention hearing is scheduled for this Wednesday. Following a thorough inspection, authorities confirmed that no dangerous items were found at the terminal.

Operations at Mocopulli Airfield have returned to normal following the police action. Local authorities reported no injuries or property damage during the procedure.
