Two students arrested in Talcahuano after being caught with homemade shotgun and drugs

Two high school seniors were arrested at a technical high school in the Biobío Region after being caught taking photos with a homemade firearm.

On Monday, police arrested two students, aged 18 and 19, at the Talcahuano Technical High School after they were found in possession of a homemade shotgun, a knife, and marijuana inside the school premises.

The alarm was raised when school officials noticed the youths taking a photo with the homemade weapon in one of the school bathrooms, according to a report by BioBioChile.

Following the report, officers from the Criminal Investigation Section (SIP) of the Talcahuano Second Precinct arrived at the campus located on Blanco Encalada Avenue. Officers located the students, both seniors, inside a classroom.

Weapons and drugs discovered

Upon searching the students' belongings, officers found a homemade shotgun, a knife, and packaged doses of marijuana inside a backpack, according to information provided by La Tercera.

According to records obtained by BioBioChile, the 19-year-old student has a prior criminal record involving assault, possession of a bladed weapon, and domestic violence.

Both individuals are currently in the custody of the Public Prosecutor's Office, where they are expected to face charges stemming from the incident. The investigation remains ongoing, led by the SIP unit.
