A student at the Duoc UC Valparaíso campus has been charged with making threats against an educational institution after triggering a police operation following a false bomb threat this Monday.

The incident forced the immediate evacuation of the Brasil 1 and Brasil 2 buildings, which are part of the institution's Mechanical Engineering faculty, after a WhatsApp message containing the alert was received.

Carabineros launched an extensive operation at the campus, which included the deployment of the GOPE special operations unit to conduct a thorough sweep of the facilities.

Police Operation

Following the inspections, authorities confirmed there was no danger to the student community. Major Guido Klesse, from the 2nd Central Valparaíso Precinct, confirmed that the threat was unfounded.

“The GOPE team from the Valparaíso Carabineros has just concluded its work, ruling out the presence of any devices, including explosives, weapons, or ammunition, within the campus,” the officer stated.

Authorities were able to identify the alleged author of the message, who was taken to the police station to provide a statement to the duty prosecutor. The young man faces charges of making threats against an educational institution.

For its part, Duoc UC announced through its official channels that it immediately activated its corresponding security protocols.

The institution confirmed that, once the situation was cleared, academic activities would resume as normal during the evening session. Classes at the Cousiño and CTA buildings in Quillota were unaffected.
