School official Haydēe Moya Moya has been discharged and is back at her home after surviving a stabbing attack at the Instituto Obispo Silva Lezaeta in Calama. The employee was medically cleared this past Sunday night, ending a 17-day hospitalization.

Moya Moya has been hospitalized since the incident occurred on Friday, March 27. During the attack, a student at the school stabbed the woman and killed school inspector María Victoria Reyes. According to reports from Cooperativa.cl, the sole suspect in this violent incident is 18-year-old Hernán Meneses, who remains in pretrial detention as the investigation continues.

Moya Moya's family confirmed the news, noting that the worker faces a complex rehabilitation process. The victim's son, Calama Councilman Inti Alavia, shared the update via his Instagram account.

“As a family, we want to share, with deep emotion, that our mother Haydée Moya Moya has been discharged and is home with us today,” Alavia reported.

The councilman noted that the official must address both her physical injuries and the psychological trauma resulting from the tragedy. “A new stage begins: her recovery and rehabilitation, given the complexity of the multiple physical and psychological wounds caused by what she endured,” he added.

Throughout this process, the victim's loved ones expressed their gratitude for the outpouring of affection and solidarity received during the nearly three weeks following the incident, noting that such support was a fundamental strength in her recovery.

The attack at the school left four people injured, including students, in addition to the death of Inspector Reyes. The official's family stated they will continue to demand justice, emphasizing the start of a legal battle to prevent further acts of violence in schools.

Alavia emphasized his commitment to working toward preventing further violence in educational institutions. “We will continue to seek justice and work so that a similar tragedy never happens again to any educator or school worker,” the statement concluded.
