A 32-year-old man lost his life early Tuesday morning in the Maipú district after being struck by a rideshare driver during an attempted robbery on Las Torres Avenue.

The incident occurred just as the victim had stepped out of the car to retrieve personal belongings from the trunk. At that moment, criminals traveling in a car and on a motorcycle intercepted the vehicle, executing a coordinated ambush.

According to evidence gathered at the scene, the assailants fired shots into the air to intimidate the occupants. The criminal maneuver involved positioning a car in front of the rideshare vehicle and a motorcycle behind the victim.

Maneuver to avoid robbery ends in tragedy

In an attempt to evade the robbery, the driver of the private transport vehicle reversed. In doing so, he struck the passenger, who was standing outside the vehicle.

Following the collision, the driver fled the scene in an unknown direction. Meanwhile, the criminals abandoned the motorcycle at the scene and escaped.

Emergency medical personnel from SAMU rushed the injured man to Bicentenario Clinic. Despite medical efforts, the patient passed away while receiving specialized care.

The Carabineros' Investigative Police (SIP) have taken over the investigation to determine the responsibilities of those involved and to locate the assailants.
