Former Minister of Justice and Security, Luis Cordero, has criticized the current administration's stance regarding security policies implemented during the previous term. In an interview on La Tercera's streaming program 'Desde la Redacción,' the lawyer and Doctor of Law emphasized the need to foster cross-party agreements.

Cordero, who previously served as Undersecretary of the Interior and was the first head of the Ministry of Security under Gabriel Boric's government, argued that José Antonio Kast's current administration shows little recognition for the efforts of the previous administration. "Public policy should be built as a State endeavor, not as the work of a single administration," the former official stated.

The former minister highlighted that agreements between the government and the opposition during the last administration were fundamental to strengthening security management. According to Cordero, this collaborative work enabled institutional strengthening, including the creation of the Ministry of Security itself.

While analyzing the current Executive's security plan, Cordero expressed difficulty in understanding the current strategy. "I still find it hard to understand," the former official confessed during the conversation hosted by Eugenia Fernández and Rodrigo Álvarez.

Furthermore, the former minister suggested that acknowledging the work of predecessors also means valuing the role of the opposition. “When you recognize the efforts of the previous administration, you aren't just recognizing the government's work; you are also recognizing the efforts of the opposition,” Cordero noted.

The interview also addressed recent statements by Security Minister Trinidad Steinert, who, in an interview with La Tercera Domingo, requested the opportunity to work toward showing results by the end of the year. Regarding this, Cordero analyzed that Steinert's interview appears intended to outline the core objectives of her management.

Nevertheless, Cordero expressed concern regarding the continuity of institutional achievements in security reached during the previous period, despite the challenges the country has faced.
