The former acting administrative deputy director of the Puerto Montt Regional Hospital, Carlo Ascencio, has legally closed the fraud case against him after reaching a settlement agreement at the Antofagasta Guarantee Court.

The case stemmed from a lawsuit filed by the Más Visión Ophthalmology Clinic in Antofagasta, which accused Ascencio of misappropriating 18 million pesos through the use of falsified bank deposit slips. The judicial process concluded five months after he was formally charged.

The future of legal action

Following the resolution of the conflict, Ascencio stated that he is evaluating filing legal action against the Puerto Montt Regional Hospital. He maintains that his dismissal, which occurred in October 2025 just days after he assumed the position, violated his professional reputation and caused him significant career damages.

The Antofagasta Guarantee Court has ordered absolute confidentiality regarding the terms of the settlement. For this reason, the specific details of the agreement remain private and have not been disclosed to the public.

Ascencio was dismissed from the Puerto Montt hospital immediately after the fraud allegations in the north of the country came to light. To date, hospital authorities have not issued an official statement regarding the possibility of facing a lawsuit from their former employee.
