Agents from the Chihuahua State Investigation Agency (AEI) appeared before the Attorney General's Office (FGR) this Thursday, May 7. The testimony is part of an ongoing investigation into irregularities regarding the entry of U.S. agents into the country following an operation that resulted in the deaths of CIA operatives.
The agents arrived at the FGR facilities in Ciudad Juárez following a summons issued by the institution to 50 Chihuahua officials. The goal is to clarify the involvement of these officers in an operation that led to the deaths of the CIA agents.
According to the news outlet Ríodoce, officials arrived in stages throughout Thursday morning. The first to appear were two police officers, followed by four other members of the AEI.
Guillermo Arturo Zunay Portillo, head of Chihuahua's Specialized Prosecutor's Office for Strategic Operations, also testified. The statements were taken by personnel from the Special Prosecutor's Office for the Investigation and Litigation of Complex Cases.
The investigation focuses on a car accident that occurred in the municipality of Morelos, Chihuahua. The crash claimed the lives of the U.S. agents as well as the head of the AEI, Pedro Oseguera Cervantes.
The investigation file aims to determine the level of collaboration involving the CIA agents, identified as Juhn Dudley Black and Richard Leiter Johnson. These individuals were allegedly participating in the dismantling of clandestine laboratories in the Sierra del Pinal.
Reports indicate these laboratories belonged to a Sinaloa Cartel cell linked to Fausto Isidro ‘N’, also known as ‘El Chapo Isidro.’ According to reports from Reforma, the AEI agents appeared at the FGR facilities as witnesses.
