The United States announced Monday its intention to "guide" commercial ships through the Strait of Hormuz in a new effort to end a blockade that is impacting the global economy, according to France 24.
Under the initiative, the U.S.-led Joint Maritime Information Center has advised vessels to cross the strait via Omani waters. The center has established an "enhanced security area" to protect maritime traffic during the operation.
To support this initiative, the American military stated that the operation could involve 15,000 service members, more than 100 aircraft, and guided-missile destroyers. However, the Pentagon has not yet specified the exact nature of the escorts or the specific protocols for ship interaction during the mission.
Donald Trump previously stated that the U.S. operation would aid ships currently stranded in the Strait of Hormuz, according to France 24.

The move aims to address the ongoing blockade that has disrupted international trade routes. The initiative, known as 'Project Freedom,' seeks to provide guidance to vessels navigating the sensitive waterway.
