Lebanon requires at least $1 billion over the next 12 months to prevent a total humanitarian collapse, according to the country's Minister for Social Affairs, Hanin Sayyed.

Speaking in an interview with France 24, Sayyed stated that the funding is necessary just to keep the humanitarian situation afloat. The minister's warning follows a wave of Israeli attacks and a ground invasion that have triggered massive internal displacement.

Rising displacement costs

Sayyed noted that the financial requirement depends heavily on the duration of the conflict. If the war continues and the rate of displacement remains at its current pace, the $1 billion figure becomes a baseline for survival.

The minister's comments highlight the mounting pressure on Lebanon's social services as more citizens flee combat zones. The influx of displaced persons is straining the nation's already fragile infrastructure and resources.

The humanitarian crisis follows recent military escalations involving Israel and Hezbollah. The ongoing violence has forced large numbers of people from their homes, creating an urgent need for food, shelter, and medical supplies.
