Camila Vallejo to join Gabriel Boric at Barcelona democracy forum

The former government spokesperson will travel to Spain to speak on artificial intelligence and disinformation at the 'In Defense of Democracy' summit.

Former government spokesperson Camila Vallejo is set to travel to Barcelona, Spain, to participate in the international summit “In Defense of Democracy.” Former President Gabriel Boric will also be in attendance, according to biobiochile.cl.

Scheduled to speak this coming Saturday, April 18, Vallejo will present to civil society organizations and research centers. Her presentation will tackle critical issues including artificial intelligence, digital platforms, power dynamics, and disinformation.

This trip marks the international debut of the former Secretary of State in her new role. According to La Tercera, Vallejo will be presenting as part of the “Global Progressive Mobilisation” forum.

Progressive delegation in Spain

The Barcelona summit will bring together several prominent figures from Chilean politics. Joining Vallejo and Boric are Senator and Socialist Party President Paulina Vodanovic, former Senator Isabel Allende, and former Foreign Minister Heraldo Muñoz.

Also attending the event are former Labor Minister Ricardo Solari, Frente Amplio President Constanza Martínez, and the executive director of Rumbo Colectivo, Tomás Leighton. Former Interior Minister Giorgio Jackson, who currently resides in Spain, will also attend the progressive gathering.

According to reports from The Clinic, former President Boric will attend in his capacity as a former head of state, having obtained the necessary congressional permission to travel abroad.

The initiative aims to strengthen democratic institutions and combat disinformation. Boric has been an active participant in this movement, having previously led meetings in Santiago with leaders such as Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and Pedro Sánchez.
