American rapper Kanye West, now known as Ye, announced Tuesday that he has postponed his upcoming concert in Marseille, France, until further notice, according to reports from France 24.
The 48-year-old artist had been scheduled to perform at the Orange Velodrome on June 11. In a post on X, the rapper stated he made the decision "after much thought and consideration."
The cancellation follows reports that French Interior Minister Laurent Nunez sought to block the performance. Marseille Mayor Benoit Payan also voiced strong opposition to the artist earlier this year.
"I refuse to let Marseille become a showcase for those who promote hatred and unapologetic Nazism," Payan said on X on March 4, as reported by France 24.
A history of travel restrictions
This postponement follows a pattern of recent restrictions on the rapper's international appearances due to past antisemitic remarks. The United Kingdom recently denied Ye entry to the country, preventing him from headlining London's Wireless Festival in July.
Ye was also barred from entering Australia last July following the release of the song "Heil Hitler," which promoted Nazism. The artist also faced backlash for advertising a swastika T-shirt on his website.
In January, the rapper published a full-page advertisement in the Wall Street Journal to apologize for his behavior. He attributed his past comments to an undiagnosed brain injury and untreated bipolar disorder, while renouncing his previous admiration for Adolf Hitler.
While his European appearances face significant hurdles, the rapper has successfully completed performances in the United States and Mexico City earlier this year, according to France 24.
