A new video game based on the 'Project Hail Mary' universe is scheduled to launch worldwide in late 2026, according to cnnchile.com.
The title, 'Project Hail Mary: Journey Among the Stars,' will expand the science fiction world created by author Andy Weir beyond the scope of the original novel and the upcoming film by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller.
Developed in collaboration with Maze Theory, the game will utilize mixed-reality technology. This format merges the physical world with digital elements, allowing players to interact with both real and virtual objects in real time.
Players will experience the story from the perspective of science professor Ryland Grace. The narrative follows Grace as the sole survivor of a space mission tasked with saving humanity.
To survive the mission's failures, Grace must form an unlikely alliance with an extraterrestrial being known as Rocky. The gameplay will require players to diagnose critical system failures and improvise engineering solutions.
An original expansion
The game features an entirely new, unreleased chapter of the franchise. Maze Theory stated that the project serves as a response to long-standing fan demand.
“Since we created Project Hail Mary a few years ago, fans have been waiting for more. This is the first step that goes beyond what happens in the book and the movie, and that you can experience in mixed reality,” the technology company said.
While a specific release date has not been finalized, Maze Theory confirmed a global launch for late 2026 on major virtual and mixed-reality platforms. The developer plans to announce pricing and specific platform availability in the coming months, according to the report.
