Professional footballer Jorginho has retracted his earlier accusations against singer Chappell Roan, stating that the artist had no involvement in a confrontation involving his family at a hotel in São Paulo.
The midfielder issued a clarification via Instagram to address the tension following Lollapalooza Brasil, according to cnnchile.com.
Earlier this month, Jorginho alleged that a security guard, whom he believed was linked to Roan's team, aggressively approached his wife, Catherine Harding, and their 11-year-old daughter.
In his new statement, Jorginho admitted his initial reaction occurred "in the heat of the moment." He noted that after receiving new information, he realized the singer was not part of the incident.
"I would react as any parent would. My priority is, and always will be, to protect my family," Jorginho wrote, according to cnnchile.com.
He clarified that Roan was unaware of the interaction and did not instruct anyone to approach his family. He described the singer as "understanding and empathetic" during their subsequent communication.
The initial confrontation
The dispute began in late March when Jorginho claimed a guard confronted his wife and daughter after they recognized Roan during breakfast at the hotel. The player originally alleged the guard accused the child of "disrespecting" and "harassing" the artist.
Roan denied any involvement through a series of videos. She stated that she did not see the woman or the child and that no one had approached her.
"I didn't even see a woman and a child; no one approached me, no one bothered me," Roan said, according to cnnchile.com.
Representatives for Roan also issued a statement to People magazine. The spokesperson noted the singer has "zero tolerance" for aggressive behavior toward fans and reiterated that she did not instruct her security or team to engage with the family.
Jorginho concluded his statement by calling the event a "misunderstanding." He expressed regret for the impact the situation had on Roan and his family and requested that the online discourse end.
