Boca Juniors goalkeeper Agustín Marchesín suffered a severe right knee injury during the opening minutes of a Copa Libertadores match against Barcelona of Ecuador at La Bombonera.

The veteran goalkeeper had to leave the pitch just 10 minutes into the first half. Marchesín was carried off on a stretcher, visibly distraught and in tears.

"I broke. I broke," the goalkeeper was seen saying as he left the field, according to reports from biobiochiente.cl.

The injury occurred during a play inside the small area when the player's leg became trapped. The immediate look of pain on Marchesín's face alarmed the coaching staff led by Claudio Úbeda and the home crowd.

A setback for the Xeneize

This injury marks a significant setback for Marchesín, who had only recently returned to action. The goalkeeper was recovering from a muscle tear that had sidelined him for 20 days.

He had only regained match fitness this past weekend during a local league game against Independiente. The recent injury suggests a period of further absence for the experienced keeper.

According to biobiochile.cl, the situation has caused deep concern among the Boca Juniors squad and supporters alike.
