Atletico Madrid holds a significant advantage over Barcelona heading into Tuesday's Champions League quarterfinal second leg at the Metropolitano Stadium.

Diego Simeone's side enters the fixture as favorites following a 2-0 victory at the Camp Nou. The first-leg win was bolstered by a red card for Barcelona defender Pau Cubarsi, leaving the Catalan giants to chase a two-goal deficit.

Julian Alvarez and Alexander Sorloth provided the decisive blows in the first leg. Alvarez converted a free kick just before halftime, while Sorloth doubled the lead in the 70th minute.

Barcelona arrives in Madrid looking to secure their first Champions League title since 2015. Despite the setback, the La Liga leaders remain dominant domestically, having recently dismantled Espanyol 4-1 to move nine points clear at the top of the table.

A battle of momentum

Barcelona's recent league form features standout performances from Lamine Yamal and Marcus Rashford. Yamal provided two assists in the win over Espanyol, while Rashford and Ferran Torres both found the net.

However, Atletico enters the tie with a recent domestic stumble. A 2-1 loss to Sevilla during a rotated lineup has left the Madrid club sitting fourth in La Liga, four points behind Villarreal.

Managers on both sides emphasize the necessity of high-stakes performance. "We know the opponent we are going to face, and we are aware of how strong they are, but we are also aware of what our objective is – to advance," Simeone said.

Barcelona manager Hansi Flick maintains confidence in his squad's ability to overturn the deficit. "We have the quality. We have the players who can change this. But, of course, we have to fight," Flick said.

Injuries and suspensions will likely shape the lineups for Tuesday's 9pm kickoff. Barcelona will be without Marc Bernal, Raphinha, and Andreas Christensen, while the suspended Cubarsi will be replaced by Ronald Araujo.

Atletico faces similar personnel challenges with Marc Pubill suspended and several players, including Jose Gimenez and David Hancko, listed as doubtful.
