Chilean government officials met with more than 20 transport industry representatives on Monday to address the impact of rising international fuel prices on logistics costs, according to latercera.com.

Economy Undersecretary Karlfranz Koehler, alongside undersecretaries from the Mining, Transport, and Public Works ministries, held the two-hour session to monitor how fuel hikes are affecting freight operations.

Koehler called on all actors in the logistics chain to collaborate transparently to account for the real impact of diesel increases on operational costs.

“We have heard the concerns of transporters and truckers and share the view that it is fundamental that the real value of diesel is reflected coherently at all levels of the logistics chain: in the regulatory framework and in transport contracts,” Koehler said, according to the report.

Proposed working group for cargo generators

The group of officials—including Mining Undersecretary Álvaro González, Transport Undersecretary Martín Mackenna, and Public Works Undersecretary Nicolás Balmaceda—committed to convening a dedicated working group. This group will include cargo generators to promote timely adjustments to transport tariffs.

The Ministry of Economy noted that, given the current exceptional context, it is important to facilitate dialogue between cargo generators and transporters. The goal is to allow for reasonable, time-bound recognition of cost variations within existing contracts.

Koehler specifically urged cargo generators who have not yet begun reviewing rates with their transporters to initiate that dialogue immediately. He stated that timely attention to this process strengthens trust and contributes to the stability of the entire logistics chain.

To support these efforts, the Ministry of Economy has opened a communication channel to collect reports regarding potential price manipulation, infractions, or unfair competition in tariff setting. The ministry is monitoring these claims via a dedicated banner on its website and through the email address monitoreotarifascarga@economia.cl, latercera.com reported.
