Three individuals have been arrested in Paris following a suspected bomb attempt near Bank of America headquarters.

French authorities confirmed the incident occurred early Saturday morning at 03:30 local time, which corresponds to 01:30 GMT on Saturday in the city's eighth arrondissement. The location is situated just a few streets from the Champs-Élysées boulevard, marking a high-profile target for security concerns.

Police sources indicated that the initial suspect was detained at the scene after placing a device containing five litres of liquid and an ignition system close to the bank building. Two further individuals were taken into police custody last night as part of the investigation launched on March 28, 2026 into the offences committed against Bank of America.

The prosecutor's office stated that the custody of the first suspect, who is a minor, had been extended to ensure compliance with legal procedures regarding terrorism cases. France's Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez suggested potential links to regional tensions involving Iran during his public comments regarding the security situation.

"In this type of conflict, you have a number of Iranian services that are likely to carry out actions such as these through proxies," he said. "There is a significant suspicion, but it is for the investigation to determine."

The anti-terrorism prosecutor's office stated they took over the case involving attempted damage by fire or other dangerous means in connection with a terrorist undertaking. France's domestic intelligence service, the General Directorate for Internal Security, is also involved in the inquiry alongside Paris judicial police.

Nuñez claimed similar attacks have been foiled in other European nations including France, Netherlands, Britain and Norway over recent months. He urged security services to be extra vigilant and increase their presence at transport hubs and other locations across the country following this incident.

This event underscores the growing risks financial institutions face in major global cities during periods of regional instability. Security protocols are expected to tighten around high-profile banking locations as investigations continue into the specific nature of the threat.
