Mexico's Tax Administration Service (SAT) allows taxpayers to contest rejected annual declarations through an online clarification process to avoid significant financial penalties, according to expansion.mx.
Taxpayers who believe their filings were rejected in error can submit a formal clarification directly through the official SAT portal. The process requires users to access the 'Mi portal' section under 'Servicios por Internet' to register their case.
When filing, taxpayers must explain why they believe the rejection is incorrect and provide any necessary supporting documentation. The system allows for the attachment of digital files to back up the claim.
Penalties for non-compliance
Failure to submit the annual declaration by the established deadline can lead to steep fines. The deadline for individuals to complete their tax obligations extends until April 30, 2026, expansion.mx reported.
Under articles 81 and 82 of the Federal Tax Code, authorities can impose fines between 2,050 and 25,360 pesos for every undeclared obligation. The tax authority may issue up to three compliance requests, with 15-day intervals between each notice.
Neglecting these official requirements triggers automatic penalties. “If the requirements are not addressed, the corresponding fines will be imposed, which, in the case of declarations, will be a fine for each omitted obligation,” the outlet noted, citing article 41, fraction I.
Taxpayers must monitor their notifications to ensure they respond to any requirements before the fine amounts escalate.
